Meat is received overnight (kill date + 2 days), with the production of sausages starting early morning. All Westaway products are made to order - we do not hold stock.
Orders are received by Telesales, Fax, Edi (Electronic Data Interchange) and Edifax during the morning, with pallet dispatch starting from midday for delivery anywhere in UK the following morning, with a shelf life of 8 days. You can also order on-line through www.ownonline.co.uk.
All pallets incorporate SSCC pallet identification - another industry recognized system that enables purchase orders and invoices to be easily matched from bar-coded pallet labels. This also enables ASN (Advanced Shipping Notification) to be activated so that customers are then aware that pallets are on route to their depots.
We have our own vehicles, however approx 60% of our logistics is subcontracted to specialists we trust, - every customer has their own particular requirements, and we actively seek to ensure maximum cost efficiency in our distribution. We already use "backhauling", factory gate collections, and load consolidation.
We cannot see the value to anyone in vehicles standing idle, or running around half empty!
We have a "can do attitude", and are particularly proud of the service levels we give our customers, whether they are a corner shop taking one tray, or a supermarket chain taking pallets.
